Temperatures are set to soar this week thanks to a heatwave caused by hot air travelling in from Africa. Here are our 8 top tips for keeping your cool over the next few days.
1. Stay Hydrated!
Make sure to carry water with you at all times and to keep hydrated throughout the day.
2. Blinds and Curtains
Keep your blinds and curtains closed throughout the day to keep your room as cool as possible.
3. Ditch The Duvet
Lose the duvets and sleep with a cotton sheet to keep cool throughout the night. Cotton pyjamas are best – to make them extra cold, pop them in the freezer for a while beforehand
4. Invest in a Fan
Having a fan will be a lifesaver in this weather. Keep it at the head of the bed and even place an ice bucket underneath it for an extra chill. A handheld fan is a great idea for when you’re out and about – particularly for when you’re on the tube!
5. Sun Cream
Make sure to consistently apply sun cream throughout the day and alternate your time between the sun and shade to avoid overheating.
6. Small Meals
Eat small meals regularly to keep cool instead of opting for larger meals as your body will warm up whilst trying to digest them. Try to avoid eating late at night to prevent dehydration and overheating.
7. Cold Showers
Taking a cold shower before bed will cool you down and allow you to sleep easily. If you find yourself overheated in the day, rinse your wrists with cold water for quick relief from the heat.
8. Listen to your body
If you begin to feel unwell, dizzy or dehydrated, make sure to drink plenty of fluids, lie down in a cool environment and let someone know.
